Comrade William Celestine - Breavement Notice
It is with deep sadness that we advise all of the passing of Comrade William Celestine on Sunday May 17, 2015 at the age of sixty-two (62).
A career Central Banker for thirty-two (32) years, William joined the Central Bank of Trinidad and Tobago on November 30, 1980 as a Clerk I assigned to the then General Services Department. Following this, on January 01, 1982, he was promoted to Clerk II and later promoted to the position of Senior Clerk on June 01, 1983. In 1997, the Bank implemented a Job Evaluation System which resulted in the position of Senior Clerk now being titled Audit Technician. In 2002, William completed the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) examination and was accepted as a member in that year. In January 2003 William was appointed as a Professional Trainee and later appointed Examiner I in January 2004. In August 2008 he was promoted to Examiner II - the position from which he would retire in January 2013 at the age of sixty (60).
During his tenure with CBTT, William served as Treasurer of the then Employees Association of the Central Bank from 1993 – 1996. In 2002 he was also selected as a member trustee to the Board of Trustees of the Bank’s Pension Scheme. Always the advocate for staff, William served on the National Executive of the Bank, Insurance and General Workers Union (BIGWU) for at least one (1) term. He was also instrumental in most negotiations between the Bank and the Union till his retirement from the Bank. Known for always speaking his mind and having a point of view grounded in past experience, William was always very analytical in his approach to any subject and was a hardworking and dedicated employee who was fiercely loyal to CBTT.
William’s family has advised that his funeral will be held on Monday May 25, 2015 at 9:00am at Our Lady of Lourdes R.C. Church, 182 Saddle Road, Maraval (opposite NP Gas Station). The cremation will follow at 11:00am at the St. James Crematorium, Long Circular Road, St. James.
